I have this same Bluetooth keyboard and use it with my iPhone 4. It pairs up when you turn it on and is easier to type on than the wired keyboard on my three year old iMac.

Thanks Rob for the review of Blogpress too.

I, too, was a NNW person some years ago. Then I went over to Bloglines. I briefly flirted with a NNW-like app called Vienna (recommended as an OSX client side aggregator) but am now "back in the cloud" with Google Reader. I like their rendering in mobile WebKit based browsers (ie. iOS, Android, WebOS, and perhaps the new Kindle 3?). I was reading <a href="http://androinica.com/2010/08/25/the-best-rss-android-app-with-google-reader-is-droid-vs-droid/" rel="nofollow">an article yesterday about who made the best Android client for Google Reader</a> and most of the commenters said "why bother". The mobile version of the site was that good. And the full browser version is as good as most desktop clients.

My guess is that Intel's purchase is a part of its mobile stategy, so no, I'm not hearing any rumors "upstairs" about AMD needing another acquisition. It's still dealing with its ATI one. :-]

Your proposal might not have been iPad based, but it was pretty darn close for the technology of the time.

Strange I have sort of the opposite feelings re: ATT/Comcast. ATT still has no 3G in my area despite Verizon and Sprint covering it for several years now. Meanwhile my Comcast connection has been rock solid and fast.

While these are national companies, "your mileage may vary" depending on where you live, I guess.

That is true. Current CDMA modems encode 3G or voice but not both at the same time. I can't speak with authority, but I'm guessing the architects thought you'd be too busy with your head to the handset to be surfing your email/web at the same time. I will admit I can see some usage model for simultaneous voice and data, especially if you have a multitasking mobile OS. (Think how rare that was when CDMA was developed)

The controversy isn't that they banned Flash. They've basically banned the use of any developer tools outside of their own. There's more than a few apps already in the app store that were made with tools besides Apple's XCode environment. Those are technically in violation. Apple prevented Adobe from releasing a tool that would have converted Flash source code into compiled native iPhone binary content. Developers can write in Javascript, Objective C, etc. but not in ActionScript. So iPhone owners not only have to buy their gasoline, oil, and windshield fluid from the Apple store, but their mechanics must buy their repair tools from Apple too.
OSX thrived by being quality while being open. I run a bunch of the same software I run on Linux on my MacBook. It's compiler is essentially the Gnu compiler chain. When OSX came out one of its features was that the kernel was open sourced. Safari's WebKit is open sourced and used on other platforms. But with the iPhone, iTouch, and iPad, Apple is going quite the other direction.

Not sure what you mean for charging for downloads? The iPad is a bit bigger but you get more screen real estate and it is a bit thinner than a Kindle. As far as the expense of books goes this appears to be changing as Amazon is having to negotiate a pricing deal with Macmillan Publishers, more publishers are sure to follow. In terms of a brick and mortar argument just doesn't sway people anymore than going to a music store when there is iTunes. Lending books Ok that is a nice feature I will grant you.

Oh no you didn't! Oh no you DIDN'T!

My point was that Flash may be buggy. I don't know whether it's the Flash app itself or just bad developers who make bad/buggy Flash content. But his assertion that it's slow?! I don't believe it. H.264 video is slow to process but that hasn't stopped him from making sure the iPod/iPhone/Macs do it well. The industry has built hardware accelerators for all of the 2D and video effects that Flash does. I know the Imagination Engine graphics IP in the iPod/iPhone's can do 2D well. That's how you get those cool things like CoverFlow.

I think underneath it all, there's something more about Adobe and trying to stay divorced from them that keeps him from putting Flash on the iPod/iPad/iPhone.

Compared to OSX's internal complexity, Flash is trivial. He could put some engineers on making it rock stable on his platforms. I take his statements as about as real as his earlier statement that no one wants to watch video on an iPod screen.

Nook and Kindle don't charge for downloads, IPad charges for downloads. The Nook and Kindle come in a paperback book size, IPad is larger and less convenient when throwing into your bag or pocket. Books for the Kindle and Nook are less expensive, by significant margin. The Nook is the only reader with a brick and mortar store, that allows you to browse hard copy books AND ebooks while in the store. Nook owners can lend ebooks to other Nook owners.

In my Concord, MA (based on a limited sample) the discussions revolved around the discuss of taxing "Cadillac health care plans" but exempting those to union members. Also the exemption that Nebraska negotiated on Medicare. They didn't discuss the deeper issues of abortion funding, immigrant funding, etc. It was the bold faced graft to select constituencies that irritated them. They balanced a concern for the poor with *equal* protection under the law. ie. you pay this tax, unless you live in Nebraska or are a Teamster.

What a beautiful way to see such heartache. I admire all foster parents who can give of themselves so freely. I considered being a foster parent at one time because I wanted a child so bad, but things didn't work out for me to take the classes, and then I ended up divorced. God knew best.
God blessed my new family and me with a baby girl back in June, but I'm 38 and she is my first. So you see I was giving up just when God was getting ready to bless me. It took a lot of me getting out of His way and allowing Him control.
I think God places some of us in positions to care for His helpless ones. Not everyone can love every child as if they were their own. It's a gift, and a great blessing to the children who may come and go in your lives. Every child you care for is one child of God's who is not being abused, mistreated, or hungry. With the hurt will come a great blessing.
By the way, if you haven't seen it, the movie Flywheel is a good one too. It's made by the same group.
Many blessings to you and yours, Merry Christmas

It's doesn't surprise me at all. I work in a state that has an income tax but live in a state that doesn't, yet I get taxed in that state like I live there. I pay no less income tax than a resident does.

Rob,

This is a great post. It shows how dedicated you are to making choices in your life and I know you can do it. I love the PABL community/movement and look forward to posting with that tag on Twitter. There are so many who are a part of it and you will be supported all along the way.

Regarding your prayer life, I have to caution you about using the word "should." I had a conversation with my spiritual director a few months ago about prayer and I also used this word. Who and what determines what you should do? I think you pray more than you think you do - your entire life can be a prayer in different ways and although you might not always make time for a conversation with God (neither do I), God is with you no matter what. God knows your needs and is with you always, no matter how much you think you mess up - each day, each moment is a chance to start fresh. That is one of the many things I learned from reading "The Shack" this summer.

I know you will be successful in your pursuit of a balanced life. And even if it doesn't go as planned, their always opportunities to try again. You'll have my support no matter what. :)

Rob,

I'm very excited for you my friend. I'll be looking forward to your #PABL tweets and hope to encourage you whenever I can! Best part is that there is a growing PABL community out there who will join me in encouraging you!

The best thing is to share your desire for lifestyle change with as many people as possible and live into that accountability.

So grateful to have been a source of inspiration for you. I can assure you that you'll be a source of inspiration for others as well!

OpenCL has had a huge impact on how we design <strong>G</strong>PU's for the past couple of years. It's important enough that we even make sure our future <em>mobile phone GPU's</em> have support for it. So far there's little that can leverage it, but it's had a bit of a chicken and egg syndrome. It's hard to design the hardware to support OpenCL when the specs were still gelling.

I had just read today about the whole NetNewsWire moving from syncing with NewsGator to Google Reader. While I have a Google Reader account, I still tend to prefer Bloglines. I'm a bit torn there.

On the flip side, I haven't used NetNewsWire in ages. Bloglines (esp their AJAX'y "beta" version) just seemed snappier than NNW. Like you, I had a hard time justifying opening another application.
